Transition to Year 1

At North Walkden, we work hard to make sure the children are ready for their transition to Year 1. The children start schemes that will follow them through to Year 1, such as Read Write Inc and White Rose Maths.

During directed time, children are required to sit down to complete their tasks and they get longer as the term gets closer to summer.

Staff share information about the children, likes and dislikes, SEN information, settling in and any medical conditions. Myself and Mrs Trousdale will share Learning Journeys' with the Year 1 staff for the lower ability children to continue working through during their autumn term.

When the new school year begins, staff work closely together to establish routines, seating plans and settling the children into their new setting. Some children that find it particularly hard to settle and where plans have been put into place before the start of the year, will visit the EYFS setting until they are ready to remain in Year 1 full time.

Starting a new class can feel a little different.

It was exactly the same for the Cautious Caterpillar

but he soon found out that the changes were far more remarkable and truly magical.

Join the Cautious Caterpillar as he takes you on a journey of excitement, change and adventure so

that you can find your Year 1 wings and be ready to fly.

Begin with our wonderful story and then complete the activities below.

Be as creative and imaginative

as you can so that we can find out all about you!
